Anne Arundel County: Power Play Delay
June 5th, 2008 by Kenneth Burns
The Anne Arundel County Council decided to back off of a power play last night by dropping two of the six charter amendments and shelving the remaining four for a couple of weeks.
The Capital said that County Executive John Leopold (R) and his team opposed the amendments because it blured the separation of powers. Among the proposals remaining the council would have veto power on spending changes of $50,000 or more, require Leopold to hand his budget proposal two weeks earlier, appoint half of the members of the county ethics commission and a technical change about when unsigned bills become law.
