Montgomery County: Still Keeping It Large…somewhat
October 16th, 2008 by Kenneth Burns
A seven part environmental protection package in Montgomery County was designed to reduce energy consumption by 15-30 percent included a provision forbiding county employees from using SUV’s, despite the fact that the county purchased a Chevy Tahoe for County Administrator Tim Firestine, a Grand Cherokee for County Executive Ike Legget, whose predecessor Doug Duncan also drove an SUV, and a Chevy Suburban for Leggett and his crew can roll to meetings being held out of the county.
The Washington Examiner says that county employees found a way around that, by renting larger vehicles through the county’s Enterprise account. Fleet Management officials are now requiring actual reasons for employees to rent something larger than a compact or intermediate size.
