Salisbury: Differences Resolved

July 30th, 2008 by Kenneth Burns

The case involving Salisbury News Editor and MarylandPT Lower Shore Insider Joe Albero and Salisbury Police Chief Allan Webster has been resolved with no money changing hands.

That means Webster v. Albero will not be decided as scheduled at the Worcester County Courthouse in Snow Hill.

Now here is what I think, Webster did not have a leg to stand on because he is a public official and as such, he is up to public scrutiny. Also, a judge ruled that while Albero was not protected under Maryland’s press shield law because he does not draw a salary from his site. However, Albero is afforded the right to protect his sources making Webster’s case a little bit harder to prove.

Let’s refer to this as a settlement where both sides can claim victory if nothing else to keep up a face in public. I believe however that Albero won, and I am not saying that because I know him and we contribute information to each other’s site. I am saying this base on common sense and the press. I would love for Governor Martin O’Malley to sue Chip Franklin for criticisms made. Stuff like this does not happen in big markets.

Lethal Injection IS Allowed

April 16th, 2008 by Kenneth Burns

This news just coming in to the Burns Media Centre.

The New York Times reporting that The Supreme Court has rejected to hear a case challenging the three drug cocktail used for most lethal injections during the past thirty years.

This case I think will have serious ramifications here in the free state with the defacto moratorium still in place by the court of appeals in addition to the defeat of a proposal to repeal the death penalty in Maryland for the second straight year.

VOTING EXTENDED UNTIL 9:30PM;OBAMA GETS TWO OUT OF THREE…SO FAR

February 12th, 2008 by Kenneth Burns

The Washington Post says that an Anne Arundel County judge has extended voting until 9:30pm tonight.

This is due to the smack of winter weather that struck the free state just in time for rush hour.

As a matter of fact, not that I am expanding the purpose or content of my blog, but much of the free state is under some advisory. Am Ice Storm Warning for Central Maryland, the Capital Region and Charles County in Southern Maryland…A Winter Weather Advisory for much of Western Maryland and the Upper Eastern Shore.

And if anything is a sign, NBC News is projecting that Barack Obama as the winner in Virginia and DC, the latter coming with no surprise.

No races have yet been called on the Republican side of the aisle.

Washington Indicted

June 14th, 2007 by Kenneth Burns

Remember a couple of stories down when I mentioned that a security official for Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson allegedly pulled a gun on a real estate appraiser?  Well, now comes the indictment.

The Associated Press reporting an hour ago that former Homeland Security official Cpl. Keith Washington is being indicted on assault charges in the above mentioned incident.

A separate grand jury is investigating the incident in which Washington allegedly shot two furniture delivery men, one of them fatally.

Salisbury: Councilwomen Capmpbell and Cohen Call Afternoon Press Conference

May 24th, 2007 by Kenneth Burns

Arlington, VA — This just in. Salisbury City Councilwomen Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen are calling for a press conference this afternoon in front of the Government Office Building.

They are going to unveil and detail their proposed budget cuts and revenue adjustments to the 2008 city budget. Campbell says that they need to remember that they are dealing with taxpayer money, not their own.

“Mrs. Cohen and I have spent countless hours attempting to remove unnecessary city spending while making sure that public safety personnel are adequately funded to protect Salisbury’s citizens,” said Campbell.

Cohen said that during the last campaign, voters made it clear that public safety was tops and that their goal was to fund it without the minimizing the need for additional taxes to be paid for those working and living in the city. Cohen adds “while we may want to spend tax money on an item, we have to as ourselves if it is truly necessary.”

MarylandPT will bring you the details as soon as they become available.
