The Baltimore Sun says that Lt. Governor Anthony Brown will be testifying in favor of a bill that would takeaway firearms from some domestic abusers.
Brown will be advoctating for the bill following the death of his cousin, Catherine Brown, who was killed by her estranged boyfriend last year at her Montgomery Village home, just as Lt. Gov. Brown was arriving at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. He returned home to be with his family upon hearing the news.

ANNAPOLIS — Lt. Governor Anthony Brown (D) is happy and excited about the next big event happening on January 20, the inauguration of the country’s first African-American President.
“Last year was an exciting and competetive election,” Brown said as he also made note of the first female to run as a serious contender for President in now Secretary of State-designate Hillary Clinton.
Brown went to law school with President-elect Barack Obama (D). “We admired him back then. [He] has stood up to serve his country.” Brown would go on to say that Obama has a lot of skills and talent which will be needed to address issues facing this country.
The Lt. Governor was “absolutely not” disappointed with not being picked as Veterans Affairs Secretary for the incoming Obama Administration. “My goal was to ensure that I made mycontribution to ensuring a seemless transition for the Obama Administration,” said Brown. “There [is] a lot of work that needs to be done to support our nation’s heroes…we have to provide quality health [and] the benefits to which they are entitled.”
As far as the legislative session, Brown says that they are looking to come up with a budget that reflects the state’s values and protects Maryland’s working families and the investments already made in the state, like education.

Lt. Governor Anthony Brown (D) is rumored to be the next Veterans Affairs Secretary under the incoming administration of President Barack Obama.
The National Journal is reporting that Brown, who is co-chairing the Obama transition team’s review team for the Department of Veterans Affairs , is receiving serious consideration for the post. He is a Colonel in the army reserve and is the highest ranking elected official to serve a tour in Iraq (in 2004). He commands the 153rd Legal Support Organization in Pennsylvania.
A spokesman from Brown’s office tells PolitickerMD.com that any talk of that is just talk. Should Brown actually get nominated, Brown’s successor would be picked by the Governor and then approved by a majority the General Assembly.

Thoughts and prayers are with Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown (D) who found out the horrible news that his cousin, Catherine Brown as he was just arriving to Denver for the Democratic National Convention.
WRC-TV (Channel 4) reported that Brown was shot by her estranged boyfriend 44-year-old Michael Keith WIlson in the garage of her Montgomery Village home. Wilson was killed by officers and an autopsy proved that she was killed with a single bullet from Wilson. Montgomery County Police tried to calm Wilson down before shots were fired. Both died at the scene and the two officers who fired shots were placed on routine administrative leave.

Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown (D) and his wife Patricia Arzuaga are separating.
The Associated Press says that the announcement was made in a joint statement, which says that both Brown and Arzuaga continue to have great admiration and respect for each other.
According to a Washington Post profile of Brown from 2006, he met Arzuaga at Harvard Law School, graduated together, got engaged and landed jobs in Washington. Brown will live close to the couples home in Mitchellville, Prince George’s County, so both can be active in their two children’s lives.
Brown and Arzuaga have been married for 15 years.
It has been a while since we have done something fun here, so why not have fun at the expense of our state chief executives. It is only fitting since we do the same with the President and Vice President anyway.
Here are Governor Martin O’Malley (D) and Lt. Governor Anthony Brown (D) reliving their childhood…he he he. Actually, this Baltimore Sun photo from taken during a break from a news conference where O’Malley announced that the MTA will no longer be buying pure diesel buses. They will be buying hybrid-electric buses in an effort to reduce pollution and noise.
The vehicles of choice in this moment are T3 motion electric vehicles used by the Maryland Transportation Authority police.
From the not a big deal, but interesting nevertheless department, What does WJLA-TV (Channel 7) news anchor Leon Harris, former Washington Redskins running back and current WUSA-TV (Channel 9) football analyst Brian Mitchell and Lt. Governor Anthony Brown (D) have in common…obviously the above ad.
It’s for Kustom Looks Clothiers in Landover, Prince George’s County who really wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary, just featuring some of the A-list clients in an ad that was ran in Prince George’s Suite magazine. As The Baltimore Sun’s Laura Vozella found out, the owner of the shop Kwab Asamoah, was unaware of the legal ramifications involving the use of Brown in the advertisement.
No one was paid to be featured in the ad and all involved paid full price.
SCHAEFER GETS IT STRAIGHT
Also in Vozella’s column this morning, Schaefer moving to a Baltimore County retirement community prompts someone to dig in their archives for a note written by the icon over straight lines.

Governor Martin O’Malley (D) with his cabinet paid a visit yesterday to the Crossroads of Delmarva. Salisbury was state capital for a day as O’Malley held a cabinet meeting at the American Legion post.
He assured local officials that the state will not shift the structural deficit to local governments. Contrary to this morning’s Baltimore Sun article, MarylandPT Eastern Shore Insider Joe Albero with Salisbury News said that O’Malley DID NOT, repeat, DID NOT urge “county and municipal leaders to join a lobbying effort to persuade the General Assembly to accept higher taxes rather than try for a solution based solely on cuts.”  Albero also told me that Lt. Governor Anthony Brown (D) was on the Bill Reddish Show on WICO (1320AM) who wondered where The Sun got that quote from.
Salisbury Mayor Barrie Tilghman is happy that a Mayor is in Government House. Remember, O’Malley was Mayor of Baltimore before getting elected. She joined Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold (R) and his counterpart in Harford County David Craig (R) who in the article called the Governor’s comments welcome news. Tilghman stated that her city is stretched thin because of public safety commitments and other expenses.
Her concerns with the state, according to The Daily Times, was that the state did not give Salsibury the power to create hotel, restaurant or other public safety taxes. She said that while the city is 25,000 strong, it grows to 50,000-75,000 during the day. This is my guess/specualtion but it sounds like she is looking for a commuter tax.
Yesterday was part of a three-day trip on the Lower Eastern Shore.
Lt. Governor Anthony Brown (D) is an O’Malley fishing trip away from presiding over a Board of Public Works meeting, which was the case yesterday.
The Baltimore Sun reported that Brown presided over a meeting with no controversy, accomplishing what Governor Martin O’Malley (D) seems to not do. Brown started close to on-time (at 10:05a.m.) and finished before noon. There is no word as to why O’Malley was not present.
Also at the meeting, Comptroller Peter Franchot (D) doing what he does best in my opinion, talk at greater length than necessary. Â Â He gave a firsthand demonstration of what meetings can be like (fine.)Â Â But then Franchot explained the history of the Board of Public Works (too much) and then presented Brown with a book about the board’s history (over the top and pompous.)Â What would you expect from a tax collector who thinks he has more power than reality.

Yesterday, I gave you a story on Lt. Governor Anthony Brown visiting Western Maryland for the annual Maryland Economic Development Association Banquet in Rocky Gap where he proclaimed that in the free state that small business are really big businesses, noting that almost half a million people work for small businesses (450,000 to be exact.)
New angle for this morning from the Cumberland Times-News, Brown said that steps have been taken to build the tech industry. Namely, money set aside for tech firms to the tune of $6 million worth of tax credits for biotech firms and $23 million for stem cell research.
Brown also address the sub-cabinet in O’Malley administration that will address the BRAC realignments.
Lt. Governor Anthony Brown (D) told a crowd in Western Maryland that in Maryland that small businesses are really big businesses in Maryland. he occasion, the 46th annual Maryland Economic Development Association Banquet attended by nearly 240 people.
The Associated Press has said that Brown told the group yesterday that the state’s educated work force and fast-growing, knowledge-based economy is ready to benefit.
About 24,000 families will move to Maryland and is expected to serve as a catalyst to the state’s economy. This must be what the Governor O’Malley is waiting for…but there are three problems, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Virginia. All with lower property taxes and either low sales tax (Virginia), no sales tax on necessities (Pennsylvania) or no sales tax at all (Delaware.)
