And now an addition to Maryland Politics Today’s dishonor roll known and The E-List. This one comes with several disclaimers and several prefaces. For one, last weeks postings were done from Washington, DC and not the new Burns Media Centre in Baltimore, hence why the picture of Baltimore City Councilwoman Helen Holton was from the MarylandPT Graphic Series 1.0 from the archive. Furthermore, I have not been online from my home for two weeks until earlier today when all was finally right with the world. At this point, I am posting this because despite the fact that my bill was greatly reduced and I have all of my services working now, it’s about the principle of the situation where communication and patience is key. In any event, here is an addition to The E-List that I am sure will receive bi-partisan support, especially for residents of Baltimore County.
The Comcast Cable franchise in Baltimore County.

OK, my initial installation on July 21 went good, except that my internet signal was slow. What ensued there after, I would not wish on anyone, including the liberal blowhards that like to use me as their dart board. I’m sure they will go on board as well.

Picking up where I can (because I am taking an accelerated summer course,) it’s time to add another name to the dishonor roll, Maryland PT’s E-List…
For those of you outside of Central Maryland, allow me to introduce to you a new nutjob to take note of, that I recently discovered myself. Brother Daren Mohammed, host of “State of the City,” heard on WFBR (1590AM) in Glen Burnie, serving the Metro Baltimore area.
Mohammed moved his show here after he was kicked off of WOLB (1010AM) for…let’s just saying making a lot of hay…at least what I can gather from google. Specifically, according to a press release, he was “censored” for speaking out about the murder of former Baltimore City Councilman Ken Harris. More information can be found here.
Mohammed is not convinced that the shooting yesterday at the Holocost Museum in Washington was allegedly perpetrated by 88-year-old James Wenneker von Brunn. Mohammed wants to know where is the videotape, stating that there are cameras all over DC, why don’t they have one in the museum. He also said that the hate crimes bill favor “zionists” because it would prevent people like him from speaking out against them.
OK, here’s the real deal on earth. The hate crimes bill affects Christians more because of our stance against the homosexual lifestyle with some of us openly disagreeing with it, calling it what it is, a sin. As far as the conspiracy theory, we can say a number of things about the government, but reeking havoc on it’s own citizens in this day in age is something I think they would not do.
By the way sir, I agree with you that Marvin ‘Doc’ Cheatem with the Baltimore Chapter NAACP does not speak for all Black people, however, neither do you. I should also continue on and let you know that you are probably the most entertaining ignorant person I know. As a matter of fact during your rant, part of it sounded like you don’t care for Jews, which I find offensive. I believe that you reap what you sow. If you sow hate, you are going to get it in return, and I mean from everyone…even Black people.
Brother Daren Mohammed of the “State of the City” radio show on WFBR, whose views are not that of the owner of WFBR, THANK GOD…you are…

Now an update of the dishonor roll known as Maryland Politics Today’s E-List. If you are keeping score, feel free to add Baltimore City politico number two for the year, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, the Baltimore City Council President…actually, let me give proper attribution before I have my head lobbed off too…oh wait, the question has yet to been answered.

Here’s the deal, the Baltimore City Council is trying to pass a law that would require a license for live performances. The city council website is contending that the law is modeled after one in San Francisco, and you know how we conservatives feel about any law that comes out of San Francisco. More about this legislation later today.

It’s time to make another addition to the dishonor roll known as Maryland Politics Today’s E-List.

This time, dishonors go to Barrie Parsons Tilghman, the mayor of Salisbury…or should I say, the outgoing mayor of Salisbury because she is not seeking re-election this year. However, she is trying her best to make sure her legacy continues through City Council Vice Chairman Gary Comegys, who wants to succeed her. How badly does she want this to happen, during her radio segment on WICO (1320AM), she is proudly promoting Comegys.
Believe it or not, that is not what placed her on the naughty list. The Maryland Daily Record is reporting that during the state of the city address recently, she warned city residents that it’s not crime, or the stagnant economy that is a great danger to the city…but malicious bloggers.
The Daily Record reported that Tilghman in her speech said that the presence of a small group of suspicious, mean-spirited people over the last five years focused on the negative has grown, endangering the city’s vitality. She added that some people are avoiding serving their city because it’s not worth chancing the scorn of bloggers.
Umm, one would say that this goes back to only three years ago, which was when in February 2006, Joe Albero, of Salisbury News fame as well as our Eastern Shore Correspondent, before he had any blog, filed a complaint against the Salisbury Waste Water Treatment Plant to the state Department of the Environment. That ultimately resulted in the city getting spanked on the hand by the state.
It should also be pointed out that this is not the first time that Tilghman has gone after the bloggers. In the past, she has called a press conference to direct attention to the blogs she says were unfairly attacking her. She has also participated in dirty tricks during an election. The last municipal election in 2007, she invited the candidates for city council for a community forum she hosted. Which is all well in good, but it was with her three picks.
In addition to that, she has gone through great lengths to control the media, forbidding anyone in city government from speaking to WICO Radio host Bill Reddish, after Reddish gave the good old fashion grilling to City Council President Louise Smith. The station had to give her a show in order to have city coverage.
Believe me, it is not the scorn of bloggers that city workers are afraid of. It was the scorn of Barrie if they violated her gag order and let the truth out.
Based on history, I would think that the biggest threat to the city of Salisbury right now, besides the economy, is Tilghman with a microphone in an election year. Believe me, you might not want to take the words coming out of this woman’s mouth at face value.
That woman is Salisbury Mayor Barrie Parsons Tilghman…

Now the latest check of the list that tracks those who have been naughty, Maryland Politics Today’s now infamous E-List of dishonorees. This week, it’s the man who has replaced Isaac Smith as the liberal blowhard, Adam Pagnucco, and as you will see in the over the shoulder graphic below, you can see why I dubbed him “The New Issac.”

The rejection of the interview request leads to the ongoing discussion of why do they bother, Maryland Politics Today’s E-List of the dishonorable.

The Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office…at least the management of the office. This is in no way a smack at the deputies that are actually doing their job. Here is the statement given to NPR:
While we are very appreciative of your invitation to join Mayor Calvo in open discussion, given the incident remains both under investigation and in litigation, we will have to respectfully decline from comment at this time. I hope at its conclusion, the opportunity will once again present itself.
The litigation part I understand, but here is where I have a problem with…the incident is under investigation? I thought the sheriff’s office finished their investigation. Sheriff Michael A. Jackson said that the shooting was justified back in September. On top of that, Jackson (D) and County Executive Jack Johnson (D) sounded pretty damn confident that the right thing was done. I would also like to add that all that was required was an apology. At the rate of two SWAT raids a day in the county, I would not be surprised if the police department AND the sheriff’s office was back under federal oversight.
The management of the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office, which includes Sheriff Michale A. Jackson…hee hee…You guys are…

And boom goes the dynomite.
Maryland Politics Today remains steadfast in calling for Jackson’s resignation.

Now the continuation of our spotlighting the bad, the ugly and the “radio edit,” Maryland PT’s E-List.
Taking the top honor this week for the first time in the oh-9, Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson (D)…

Johnson who was lured out of exile to make an appearance on The Politics Hour this past Friday on WAMU (88.5FM), by the way the interview is about 23 minutes into the program if you download it. If you are interested, Johnson says that the D.C. United would probably end up in the Largo area should the pro soccer team finds reasonable terms.
The part which places him on the dishonor roll, or as you might say ‘the good stuff’, starts 29 minutes in when host Kojo Nhamdi brings up the county police department being under federal oversight no longer. A couple of minutes later, Kojo asks about two outstanding cases, the death of Ronnie White, the 19-year-old Laurel man who never had his day in court in regards to being accused of injuring a police officer with his car. The officer died of his injuries, White was killed in a county jail, waiting to be formally charged. The other case, you guessed it, the botched police raid on Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo’s home.
Johnson said that the police department did not have anything to do with the White case, which is true, there is a whole separate unit overseeing the jail. Johnson went on to say when the incident happened, “I came out very strong [and] made clear that we do not tolerate unconstitutional acts in our county [and] that all of the citizens, especially those in our custody, deserve equal protection [and] due process.” That laughter you hear in the room…is me, especially when it comes to page two.
Johnson in regards to the Calvo incident, “All of us are subject to the law. If there are allegations that there are illegal substances in my home and if there is evidence to that effect, I expect the police department and law officials to treat me like they would treat any other citizen.”
Washington City Paper columnist Mike DeBonis asked the question that we are all think at this point: “Should every citizen be subject to a SWAT team raid and have their dogs shot and killed in cold blood?” Johnson (long story short) said that Calvo is not above the law. In addition to that, Johnson played dumb when it came to a Washington Post story which said that officers did not have a no-knock warrant to bust in Calvo’s home.
So let me get this straight, so we the citizens of Prince George’s County are not above having our property destroyed, our pets being executed and to be hand cuffed while in our underwear and not answer any questions as far as what we are being accused of. You heard it first on WAMU. If you run a PetSmart in Prince George’s County, I would start talking to corporate about ordering Kevlar for cats and dogs really soon. The demand is about to increase on those items.
Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson is…

Here is the latest addition to The E List. Adam Pagnucco from Maryland Politics WATCH. A couple of days ago, Adam updated his own version of political blog rankings, while noting:
Kenny Burns of Maryland Politics Today stopped disclosing his Sitemeter counts after we revealed that his blog was one of the least-read political blogs last summer. His statistics cannot be verified without publicly-available, third-party verification from Sitemeter or a similar service.
The revelation is based on an email that he sent to me which said:
“Mr. Burns, I don’t see Sitemeter up on your blog anymore. Did you disconnect it? I am collecting data for a possible update to my Maryland Blogdom series on Maryland Politics Watch”
I do not believe I replied to his email, but if I did, I explained that since I revamped the look of Maryland Politics Today last year, I decided to rely on my own stats which are provided by my web provider Globaltap. The other reason which I more than likely did not include in my email response, assuming that I did one, I would have said that the fact that I spoke to the Maryland Association of Counties Summer Conference this past summer and was on The Kendel and Bob Ehrlich Show on WBAL (1090AM) this time last year, are just a couple of examples of my audience pull, in addition to being a contributor to PolitickerMD.com, before that site decided to suspend operations.
In addition, I received emails from other journalists in addition to county and state officials with their comments but more importantly, their news. I could also go on and mention the number of major outlets that link to this blog either by story or outright, but that would be pililng on at this point.
I think I replied to your email (I will verify that when I get home tonight.) In any event, the bottom line is that you didn’t verify jack. I just didn’t add the sitemeter when I changed the template last year. Plus the fact that I am a conservative, you are just trying to start some mess that is baseless.
Adam Pagnucco, who is a dead ringer for Isaac Smith, and by the way thank God that prejudicial jerk is gone, you are…

Did I mention that The Ehrlich’s linked to my site last year…nah, I don’t think that would be necessary.

It’s that time again. Here is the latest edition to MarylandPT’s E List, WYPR General Manager Anthony Brandon and Program Director Andy Beinstock. For full disclosure, even though I work in radio broadcasting, I have never worked for a public station.

It has been a year since Marc Steiner was ousted from his midday slot on WYPR (88.1FM), a slot that he held for 15 years at that point. That period included the station’s predecessor WJHU, when it was owned by Johns Hopkins University. Steiner led the charge to keep Baltimore and Public Radio in the same sentence. He succeeded, Brandon chosen by the guarantors of the $5 million loan to keep things in check.
This week, The Baltimore Sun and Baltimore Magazine did a one year look back at possibly one of the messiest divorces in public broadcasting history since the Pacifica debacle of a decade ago.
You would think that Brandon and Beinstock would have been more classy about how the station handled Steiner’s dismissal a year later, but they continue to trash the guy who is the very reason for ‘YPR’s existence.

For the first time in 2009, new additions to the list of dishonorees who make you ask yourself, “why bother?” The addition of two people makes good news for Doni Glover, he will not be featured on the front page of this site…well for now. I have a feeling that he will be back on it real soon. Now to actual business, a double whammy to start off the new year of dishonorees, how exquisite. I want to say it’s a tie in mental olympics as far as who sounds insaner.

Hate to use for a pun ladies first, but here you go. Baltimore City Senator Lisa Gladden (D-Dist. 41) who is known for her frequent appearances on Maryland Public Television’s “State Circle” in addtion to saying some humdingers (or both.) Among her famous lines was saying back in June 2007, that the BGE rate hike was an Ehrlich issue and not a de-reg issue. Even before that was her famous defense of racist attacks against Lt. Gov. Michael Steele in 2005.
Now to current times, where Strange News Examiner J. Doug Gill, with help of fellow Red Maryland Contributor Mark Newgent, who also happens to be apart of examiner.com as the Baltimore History Examiner, made known that even though Governor Martin O’Malley (D) announced the possibility of layoffs and more of those tough decisions being made in regards to the budget. Gladden’s response was that she didn’t care, as long as Barack Obama is President is all that matters.
You are probably saying, “Burns, are you sure?” YES I AM, and so was WBFF-TV (Channel 45) who recorded the words coming out of her mouth on camera. By the way, she was showing off her Obama watch.
Do I really need to point out how dumb she sounds on this one?
Sharing the top prize is Prince George’s County Spokesman Jim Keary.

First let me explain the situation. In 2005 Andrea McCarren, a reporter with WJLA-TV (Channel 7,) was following a tip that a Prince George’s County Police Officer was escorting Prince George’s County Chief Administrator Jacqueline Brown on personal trips in addition to business trips. McCaren and a Channel 7 photog followed the officer and Brown on one of the trips. The officer did not know who was following him and called for back up. Next thing you know, the vehicle McCarren and Channel 7 camerman Pete Hakel were in was surrounded by at least seven of our county’s finest with guns drawn throughout.

Earlier this month, I added another reason for BMORENEWS.com publisher Doni Glover to remain on the list of people that are just out there.
Earlier this month, I told you about a news item that he posted on his site, which accused the Baltimore City Police of homicide in an incident that happened before Election Day. I made it painfully obvious that I was not judging the deceased, but I was calling Doni out his rush to judgement against city police before the investigation was even completed.
Then during the Christmas break, Doni posted a response to my adding him to The Maryland PT E-List. Because I do not want any accusations of me trying to shuffle his comments under the rug, here is his response UNEDITED as I received it:

And now an addition to the list of people who are not thinking. Although, technically he has not been replaced yet. That person is BMORENEWS.com Publisher Doni Glover.

Here is the problem this time, Glover earlier last month posted an obit of Dale Graham, a law student at the University of Baltimore. The wording of Glover’s piece starts off:
“Dale Graham, age 29, at the untimely and sudden instance he was called home to our Lord and Creator, God. A victim of homicide, at the hands of the Baltimore City Police Department (still under investigation), his premature demise was a tragedy yet a blessing for all those fortunate enough to meet his acquaintance.”
While I do not believe in speaking ill of the deceased, I do have to speak ill of Doni for his continuing to pick and choose which side of the stories he wants to publish.

Any black journalist, such as Burns, who does not know his own people’s history is not fit to write about them.
Black media professionals, as espoused by Professor Ronn Nichols, ought know they have a responsibility to counter the efforts of mainstream America to demonize – unfairly – black people.
The op/ed regarding Dale Graham, it should be noted, was not written by me nor represent the views of bmorenews.
The op/ed was written by Hassan Giordano, a good friend of Dale’s.
Further, Dale was my nephew. On this note, I declined to make an official comment on Dale’s unfortunate and untimely death.
Mr. Burns, it is clear to think, has very little sensitivity regarding the entire situation and remains on the periphery of the plight of black people.
Where is your heart, Mr. Burns?
Finally, while Dale had his challenges, he did more politically in his brief but adventurous life than Mr. Burns has ever done. He worked on a number of campaigns, including that of Congressman John Sarbanes. Despite coming from a challenged background, he still worked for an education and was law student.
Given these facts, and despite his mistakes, I thought Hassan’s op/ed did well – although biased – to attempt to honor the life of yet another fallen soldier. But again, Mr. Burns apparently has no idea of that plight. He does not even know about Fannie Lou Hamer or Nat Turner – as he demonstrated on our show on Election Day 2008 – the same day he voted for John McCain.
Get to the library brother. You are long overdue for a visit.
I have a very special Comment Today for Doni in the latest post above. For disclaimer purposes, Doni has received an advance copy of what will be posted and he remains…
