Fascism is commonly placed on the far right of today’s political spectrum when it is described. Despite this, most scholars agree that influences by the left and right contributed to its development.

Italian Fascism was created with both right and left influences. The “Fascist right” was made of members of fascist paramilitary and some ex-members of the Italian Nationalist Association. The “Fascist left” included those who wanted to replace Italy’s liberal parliament with a national syndicalism and promote the interests of common people and workers. The Fascist paramilitary members desired a dictatorship. The members originating from the Italian Nationalist Association wanted the existing elites to remain while implementing an authoritarian corporatist state. Fascist Italy also had small groups who tried to shift the movement towards their beliefs.

These included the “clerical Fascists” who promoted Catholic beliefs and the “monarchist Fascists” who pushed for an absolute monarchy.

Several movements of fascism were self-described as a “third force” and not in today’s political spectrum. Benito Mussolini declined to specifically define his version of fascism in an attempt to gain support from as many people as possible.  Benito Mussolini pictured that the economic system of his fascist Italy could be described as either state socialism or state capitalism.

Some political scientists have found that the left and right of the traditional political spectrum don’t allow for the complexity of the fascist ideology. Some multi-dimensional models of the political spectrum have been devised to help explain this.

As fascism started to spread in Italy it gained popularity around the world. The results of World War II quickly dampened this popularity. Marcus Garvy, Winston Churchill, and Franklin D. Roosevelt were all initial supporters of fascist Italy.

Following World War II, fascism became quite unpopular around the world. Today, fascist is usually used to describe a preference for authoritarian rule. Fascism is used to attack both left and right wing stances and is often over-used and misrepresented.

When I looked at the twists and turns around the price per barrel of crude oil on the global spot market, particularly when it crossed the 0 mark in January 2008 and now hovering at 3 per barrel, I marvel at how the fortunes of a nation can be turned around in a twinkle of an eye.

The last time Nigeria enjoyed this kind of BOOM was in the early 70′s under the military, and a brief moment under President Sheu Shagari in the early ’80s. Between those times and now, many other developing economies in the same underdeveloped rank with Nigeria had smarten up and climbed out of the morass of misgovernment and economic mismanagement.

I am talking of Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Egypt, Singapore, and to some extent, South Korea. They escaped from the trap of poverty not because of any OIL BOOM, but by dint of sheer industry and vision. My sincere and passionate prayer for Nigeria is that we would use this latest opportunity to unleash the potential for socio economic development that is latent in this awesome population of over 140 million great people.

Despite the trial by error regime of President Obasanjo, I believe God is giving Nigeria a great opportunity to correct those errors and turn the trials into triumphs of nationhood and true Federation, where the rights of all communities and constituent parts of Nigeria would be respected.

Part of my prayers is that Nigeria would graduate from the lacuna of power failure and infrastructural decay, and become truly a visionary and missionary nation, conquering her failings and frailings to propel the masses to a new prosperity that would swallow past bitterness and poverty, and promote true competition and advancement in our journey to the promised land, which, anyway, has exceeded the time bounds of 40 years by some additional overtime of 8 years now!

People are talking about the tiny house movement. What is it? Is it small houses that are being moved down the street to tiny lots? Is it a political movement? This movement is all about a segment of society that states that people are downsizing the space or spaces that they live in.

If you haven’t heard of it, the tiny house movement is a growing trend and not just a fad. It’s been featured on network television all over the world. What makes the tiny movement so big, and what determines what a small home is? The average house in America is just less than 3,000 square feet in size. Tiny houses are built with the focus on smaller simplified living so they average around 400 to 500 square feet at the most. Some small houses are very tiny, at around 65 square feet.

But Why the Movement toward Downsizing Houses?

This movement is all about efficiency, saving natural resources, and saving the environment.

People who have been concerned about these factors in society have been very concerned at the amount of natural resources (and accompanying waste) that’s generated every time a standard size home is built.

And if you include all the resources that go into maintaining older standard size houses, a good argument can be made that the old adage of “Bigger is better” is not better anymore. For example: If a tiny home of about 200 square feet is built in remote areas away from sprawling cities, the house leaves virtually no impact or carbon footprint on the natural environment around it. And in many areas small houses are using solar panels for their energy source.

Smaller Homes Are Economically Friendly Too

When you consider many automobiles today cost over ,000, it’s easy to see the economic value in getting involved in the tiny house movement. Small homes or houses can cost as little as ,000 if you buy a pre-fabricated or pre-built one. If you build it yourself you’ll save a lot more.

Many people in society during the last few decades have found themselves working long work weeks and getting little time off, only to spend that time constantly maintaining a large house that they hardly ever spent any time in. Although small homes will always be just that, the tiny house movement is growing into something big.

The absolutely amazing thing about the entire Tea Party Movement, which has grown exponentially, is the unity and deep conviction of those involved. The Tea Party movement is drawing people from all political stripes, social causes, and income brackets. It is drawing people who have never participated in any kind of political or grassroots movement before. What we have in common, and what holds us together, is a very deep love for the uniqueness of the United States of America, a desire for the limited government that our Founding Fathers created, a fairly “strict” interpretation of the Constitution, a belief in capitalism and free enterprise and a strong sense of personal responsibility. Tea Party Movement people are feeling an urgency. They are sensing that we must take action NOW, not next year. There is a general sense among the majority of Tea Party people that both major parties are to blame, neither were fully responsive to voters and that it’s time to clean house.

The Tea Party Movement is not endorsing one particular solution, candidate or party.

We know that there are many good ideas out there, and excellent people behind them. We know that some groups have worked on these issues in a formal way for years, and perhaps feel that the Tea Party movement is eclipsing their efforts. That is not the intention of the Tea Party Movement at all. We are choosing to “major on the majors”. That is the strength and the power of the Tea Party movement. It won’t matter if it’s fair tax, no tax or flat tax if our country is bankrupted. It won’t matter if you want the Federal Reserve abolished if Congress keeps appropriating power for itself, and voters are ignored. It won’t matter how you feel about the federal funding for abortion, or the Marriage Amendment if our government usurps power and does not reverse its current path, your voice will have little impact.

We see ourselves as serving as a springboard for the people. We are a starting point. We are a powerful voice saying to all elected officials – local, regional, state and federal – “the government belongs to US the VOTER, the taxpayer, not you”. The incredible, laser-like power of the Tea Party movement is the lack of factions. We cannot be ignored. Even the framers of the Constitution chose to set aside some issues, (like the issue of slavery) at the time in order to focus on the foundational issue – the founding of a constitutional democracy.

The issues and ideas that are at the core of the Tea Party movement:

1) All forms of government must abide by the boundaries set forth in state and federal constitutions.

2) All pork and earmarks in the stimulus, omnibus bills, and bailouts must be reversed and repealed. The national budget must be balanced. Spending cuts, not increased taxation should be used to balance the budget.

3) Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness implies personal responsibility, not handouts, free-enterprise and capitalism, not government controlled economies. Some people choose to be irresponsible (and of course some fall on hard times due to circumstances), but it is not the responsibility of the general public, vis-a-vis government intervention, to guarantee or bailout irresponsibility and failure. Private individuals and organizations give out of compassion and generosity, not compulsion through taxation. laws, and pork barrel projects.

4) ALL elected and appointed officials are under the employment and serve at the will of We the People.

5) Excessive tax burdens kill prosperity.

6) Excessive national debt is generational theft, and stealing the future of our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

7) Neither major political party is “clean” on these issues. Both Democrats and Republicans have taxed excessively and neither have restrained the hand of government effectively. There are certainly individual representatives who have been faithful to their constituents and to the Constitution. However, too many are engaged in protecting their congressional positions and turf. The majority of government officials have insulated themselves from the people they serve, and hold themselves above the law. We are simply saying, “No, you aren’t above the law”.

8 ) The American public at large is ignorant of the purpose of government, the founding documents such as the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Federalist Papers. As a result, they allow politicians to sell them false hope and “rights” and “entitlements” that are not guaranteed by the Constitution. By educating the American people on the foundations of our history, we hope to bring sanity to the election and legislative processes.

9) As a group, we are appalled at the audaciousness and arrogance of our government in the last few years, particularly the proposals and bills passed in the last few months, despite massive public disapproval.

The Tea Party is a wake-up call to all Americans.

Corruption is a global phenomena and it is everywhere in the world. Corruption in India has been prevalent since the unknown history of the country. Today what is the worst element in India which destroys the nation is corruption. A positive step against corruption in India is the Anti-corruption movement led by the respectable social activist Anna Hazare. Anna Hazare was a former soldier of the Indian Army. He is well known and respected by the people. His struggles remind us about the battle led by Mahatma Gandhi. The power of Gandhi’s non violence once again waging war against corruption. People from different parts of the country supported him. One of the great merit of his movement is that it is not involved or influenced by any political party. His fast ended on a positive indication that the Lokpal Bill was accepted by the Government but we are yet to see the result. As per the Lokpal Bill, there will be a separate body to investigate and curb corruption in India. We have to see if loopholes will be there in Lokpal Bill also like in all other bills and laws.

People look forward to Anna that he might be able to bring a corruption free India. We have to wait and see how the bill comes to us into the midst the common man in India.

I will start off by informing you that there is no real difference between the words “disabled” and “handicapped,” except for the linguistic ones. They both refer to physically challenged people, who often need special living accommodations.

Our Center Park of Seattle, Washington, USA, was founded by Ida May Daly, who had a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. While suffering from this debilitating illness, she managed to get enough public and private donations to buy a huge square block of land near downtown Seattle – and go set it up so that certain people would have a place to actually thrive and live, instead of one in which to waste away and die. She didn’t like what institutionalized or hospitalized living does to people in reality, and how most such places preach an afterlife – involving how you have to die in this lifetime to achieve it.

Nowadays, almost all those Jewish, Catholic, Protestant, Buddhist, Hindu, Moslem, private enterprise or whatever institutions in America are united along a diversity of racial and socioeconomic lines.

This is due mainly to the efforts of various civil rights aficionados – and via coincidence of circumstances, Center Park is located in what in the 1980s was an African-American neighborhood. That was how the property values were low enough for Ida May Daly to be enabled to purchase the land in that neighborhood. It used to be white and Catholic, earlier – there still are some people from that time frame who live there. I attended their major church once, and witnessed hostilities and frictions that are probably entirely gone by now, although I suspect impoverished people yet reside there.

In the 80s, I worked at Center Park in that neighborhood, and wondered deeply about life itself, being a newbie professional writer and artist, working my day job helping the disabled.

I was a live-in personal care attendant, living with and doing daily activities with physically and mentally challenged people, mostly white ones, before the days of the Internet. Back then, they also had Christian study groups, to pass the slow time, and involvement in local and national politics, which was more to my crowd’s liking. I wasn’t much for Christian studies, being too Jewish influenced to ever see myself that way.

Being deeply involved with fragile people with distinctively human lives and bodies, ones which were not so spiritually suited for an afterlife, I used to be sad at how many long years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., alias Michael King, had to keep up such a “preachy” attitude of going on to another place to get rid of such a fallacy. He said he was heading for “the Promised Land,” which everyone disabled or handicapped I have ever met up here in the Pacific Northwest seems to think is indeed – Canada.

Dr. King himself, an African-American of long standing, and a pastor cum reverend at Ebenezer Baptist Church, far away from where we lived at Center Park, performed many of his duties far down in the American South – while we of this article were located in the American Northwest. Therefore I figured he probably meant something else by this catch phrase, “the Promised Land,” such as eternal peace, but many of the disabled I’ve met in the Pacific Northwest would like to live in Canada. It’s kind of an ongoing jest that “we” would all like to move up to the Promised Land, in this era of global warming.

The melting back of the glaciers up north does mean the expansion of the Northwest Territories, and it would be wonderful indeed to slowly be moving northward. The Great Seal of King County, as of 1986, sports the fine but somewhat overweight head of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in support of all the many things he did for civil rights. This includes work on behalf of the handicapped and disabled, although strangely enough we have yet to see much of a united effort on the part of people of color and the physically challenged, especially on the Internet. It’s odd enough; it’s as though one movement is led by colored people, and the other movement is led by white people. There is thus the Civil Rights Movement, and the Independent Living Movement.

The former group is simply being led by other types of people than the latter group. It seems due to efforts on the part of both the left wing and the right wing of political participants, and so the disabled are led significantly by white men in wheelchairs at this point in time, in the year 2007. Dr. King’s face on the Great Seal doesn’t seem to have changed this any, although all of the city busses are now wheelchair accessible. Also, the days when the bus was “demarcated” for black people to be forced to ride in the back of the bus, with brown outlined windows signifying this, are over, as Mayor Norm Rice of Seattle went ahead and repainted the bus windows about a decade ago.

We had our usual struggles between racial groups, typical of what you may have seen before, and now the buses are almost fully together when it comes to human rights. There are still some odd issues involving Native American rights – there are municipal and county buses where an area is demarcated for “red” skinned people. I don’t know if anyone is ever going to change that, but I do know no one is forcing aboriginal people to ride in the backs of the buses – there are simply red outlined windows in the far back which are obviously more than a mere coincidence. No “Indians” are forced to sit back there, and I doubt much farther will be done about the bus painting arrangement.

It’s similar to the large red black and white “No Smoking” huge signs on the Washington State Ferry system’s large ferry boats; the symbol screams of being a swastika derivative, but nobody Jewish is making any complaints about it. People are too used to it to make any real fuss over something as subtle and hidden as such signs are in public. Nonetheless, the “brown skinned” population of Seattle may make a move against these signs, someday, if someone other than me finally sees them in their own clarity.

Chief Sealth, a Native American or aboriginal, was the brown of color man our Emerald City of Seattle in Washington State was named after, and he resides currently in a grave near an aboriginal people’s reservation. He was the leader of a tribe hereabouts, the name of which I have forgotten. He gave a wonderful “final” speech where he handed over his tribal lands, possibly the Duwamish were involved, and he asserted in a noble and peaceful way that “we” who now live here might be able to handle the privilege. I myself keep hoping someone will do something about those “red” demarcated bus windows. I’m sure Chief Sealth would not like his people to be stuck with such a set of circumstances. And I suppose the Jewish community may or may not ever do anything about the giant “No Smoking” swastika style signs on the ferry boats, against white skinned people.

But who is the true Chief of Seattle; is it the Mayor, or someone else? Many communities exist here in our lovely area, led by many an interested party or person. But what makes a person such a being of involvement? Is it his or her heart, or brains, or beaucoup bucks that do this, or the fact there must be someone for greatness to be thrust upon? What is “greatness” really – is it something that is simply there for certain people, in a certified and given time, in a definite and realistic way? And is greatness something achievable by just anyone, or is it only for specific people, ones who know what they are doing?

Someone – everyone needs to be “a somebody,” like Jesse Jackson, one of Dr. King’s own men in their times, once put it; he said that you really should become that somebody. In a way, that will always be my John Tyler, part Indian or Native American, part white man, who ruled one floor of a multi-story apartment building as a radical who fought for the rights and freedoms of the underprivileged handicapped American.
